For a better biking experience in Baton Rouge, you can download the official bike map made by Bike Baton Rouge. A large number of volunteers helped make the map. The committee that chose the routes went for low-traffic, low-stress courses through the city that still linked neighborhoods well. If you don’t live in a place where you can bike, the map can help you figure out where to go for a scenic ride.

The League of American Bicyclists, a national group that works to improve bicycle conditions in cities, gives a city its seal of approval if it is bike-friendly. Baton Rouge applied to become a Bike-Friendly City with help from city agencies and local groups that support bicycling. Through the League of American Bicyclists, this title was given until 2017.

Biking is suitable for people’s health and keeps the air clean. Several things are being done by the Baton Rouge Planning Commission to make the city more bike-friendly. Local cyclists made the Baton Rouge Streets with Recommended Bicyclist Skill Level map, which is an example of one of these efforts. The map shows how fast traffic moves and how wide the outside lanes are. Fewer people get hurt on streets that are good for biking.

Even though people are eager to ride their bikes and enjoy the better weather, it is essential to stay safe. Bicycles are in more car accidents in Louisiana than any other type of vehicle. Bicyclists should never drink or do drugs, and drivers should give them plenty of space. Also, it’s essential to follow the rules of the road and all signs. Bicycle safety is one of the most important things for the group.

The first day of LSU’s fourth annual Bike Week was also the first day of the BR Biker website. The Student Government started LSU Bikes! The bike ride is so popular that 185 people are participating in the September 2009 Critical Mass, which is put on by LSU Bikes! The video is also on YouTube, where you can watch it. Ian Pollard made the movie and cut it together. And it’s been talked about in the local news.

Less car traffic is one of the best things about places that are good for biking. Less road traffic makes Baton Rouge a better place to ride a bike. With better safety and more space set aside for bikes, bike lanes will cut down on traffic and keep pedestrians from getting hurt. Low-income people in the city will be able to move around in a new and fun way thanks to this change. So, the city will become an excellent place to live for people who ride bikes.
